Why would someone block you for congratulating them?

I take part in local tennis competitions and so does he. We are casually familiar with eachother because of that and did mutually follow eachother on Instagram, with normal interactions such as likes and random comments.

I follow one of the local sports clubs because I take part in their women's tournaments and recently they posted a pic of him because he won the tournament he was playing in. I sent a message saying "Congratulations on winning, that's awesome! Hope you smash the next one too!" and I got blocked. I don't understand why, what did I say that was wrong?

So possibly when you said "Hope you smash the next one too!" he may have taken that as you being sarcastic or something. BUT I think it's absolutely stupid that he would even block you for that. Or for saying something nice to him period.

You are okay. He is the one being ridiculous. But it's a blessing because he has shown you who he is and that you wouldn't want to have any kind of connection with someone like that. Imagine you guys started dating or even got married and you say something that causes him to just walk out.

When people block you for really stupid reasons, it tells you a good deal about them and their character.

That person is likely jealous of you and they think you are more talented. Competition brings out ugliness In a lot of people.
