Why do guys brag?

So majority of my co-workers are male and every once in a while they flirt with me, etc and I also find that some of them brag about their income, the new house they bought, the jet tub they got etc. Why do they do this? I know some guys like to show off, I just never understood the reason behind the bragging... lol
