Why did he delete the message?

so i was looking for my ex’s breakup message (DON’T ASK WHY) then i found out he deleted the message. i asked him why, and he said ‘cringe’. i think there’s more to it than that though.. any ideas?

I think he just felt ashamed for typing an emotional message, which, after reading it again after some time, made him cringe. And because people screenshot stuff all the time and what is written generally stays there forever, he probably thought it's a good idea to just delete it.
If you two broke up from just a couple of days, maybe there is something more and he is going to let you know about that soon. But if it's more time and he didn't follow up with any attempt to contact you directly, well, that is it, nothing much behind that. Especially if he never used to be extremely indirect and extremely insecure to need to communicate things with such indirect methods and waiting for others to pull out his intentions...

Don't be fooled by wishful thinking, I mean you may be right, but consider there might be actually nothing behind that (most likely, in my opinion) and that you might have a bias about reading this situation.

There is nothing more to it. A lot of people will delete messages especially from ex's because we have no need to keep them. They are our ex's who wants to keep messages from them?

Probably embarrassed him for one (he was embarrassed at how he wrote it or that it was a break up message) and possibly he is getting rid of reminders I'm sorry to say.

Yeah no its completely normal to want to delete evidence of one's cringe behaviors. I'd do the same.
