Why would a guy I just met try looking what I’m doing on my phone?

I met this guy at a two day conference. On second day, when we were having lunch with our common work friends, I pulled out my phone to check my flight timing. He was sitting next to me and I noticed he made effort to look on my phone screen. Do guys normally do this? Also, for more context, when walking around in group, he turned to check on me a few times.
