Guys, Why does my crush send me a random message daily but doesn’t respond when I respond back?

My crush sends me random messages once or twice a day, almost everyday. But, if I respond to it, he only responds back with an emoji or not at all. If I send him a random text, he doesn’t respond to back for hours. But, never longer then a day. Does this mean, he is really not interested in me? Why does he send me messages at all? It’s getting old and confusing. When we talk on the phone, he acts like it’s the first time he is reading the messages I send. What is happening?

Also, I am in a broken relationship and I am currently trying to figure out how to get out of it. My crush doesn’t know this. So, maybe that is the real problem?
