The main background of this video is a botched poll by Pew Institute in which they conclude that in the age group of 18-29 a third of women is single, but two thirds of men are single which at first glance seems impossible. It really is impossible, too.

The General Social Survey instead found a difference of only 10 percentage points (52% for women, 62% for men), and they've been tracking this since 1972.

The difference of 10 points is mainly due to more women dating older men (only less than 3 years on average), and for numbers in the range of one percentage point to the net impact of polyamorous and homosexual relationships.

The main huge difference of 20 percentage points is simply that women in a heterosexual contact with a man say that they are in a relationship, but the man reports as single. This applies to the early phase of dating, a "break" from relationship, friends with benefits, casual sex...

They need to imorove the wording more like the GSS.

@ericsummer I'm not familiar with the study, but a third of women CAN be single and two thirds of men be single at the same time if the other third of men are seeing more than one woman.

It appears about 20% of the women are not in a "committed long-term relationship", but still do not report as single in the Pew study behind the video. I agree that some of those will not have the man for themselves, but he might have multiple women in this situation.
Among people truly in a committed long-term relationship, polyamorous set-up has almost no statistical impact as this might involve different numbers of men and women and often even more men. It is also rare.
Anyway, I wonder if they asked about sexual activity first. A woman who is sexually active is under huge social pressure to say she is in a relationship even if she is not. Pew seems to be stronger at statistics than at psychology.

@BoopBoopBeep - Best look up the answer by the IFS, Institute for Family Studies titled "There is no huge gender gap...".
Let me mention that the IFS is conservative and I am, too, while Pew is bipartisan. However, most of all, the IFS has always dealt with human sexuality while Pew makes a foray into this from their area of various political polls.

@BoopBoooBeep - For the General Social Survey? You can find the full documentation on the NORC website of University of Chicago. It seems to be public. It's about the variable "POSSLQ" which is married, cohabiting, married but living apart, or single.
I already sense that with this official sounding survey a woman would tick "single, but having casual sex" as "single". If you give her any leeway to reason her status as "in a relationship" she will tick that instead. After all, her latest sex partner texted her and wants to see her again, doesn't he?

There are also common law marriages.

@BobLouis - That's right. We would capture them at the latest via their cohabitation, though, if they do not just tick married. They do not contribute to the high number of singles either way.

There are some cases where they live separately and they count them as common law married though.

There simply isn't anything in it for us anymore. Guys used to date to get to know women we'd meet to form bonds, become friends, fall in love and marry and then raise a family. Half of women do not want this anymore. That eliminates half the men from contention. The ones that are left are put through an ever increasingly level of expectations that due to women competing with us for the same jobs, we cannot possibly meet. Women used to not work. Now they work, but this has not diminished a woman's expectations in a man one iota. A guy used to make 50k. Now the women makes 50k and so she expects a man to make 100k. Not only is she siphoning off the potential for him to make more but she expects him to produce twice as much. This isn't even economically feasible. On top of this men know if he ever doesn't meet her expectations she'll drop him like that :::snaps fingers:::. Women through feminism declared war on men and basically only want us around if we submit to thier every whim. No one wants to live like that. This woman explains better how far things have actually went it this war. And keep in mind this is one of thier own saying it.

to them, the juice ain't worth the squeeze

why jump through hoops to get nothing out of it except a loss of time, energy, money, resource that could be better spent elsewhere plus a potential lawsuit of sexual harassment and false rape accusation pinned on them?

Women only dating top 10-20% of men because of false perception of female relationship value/ SMV (sexual market value). Since they can easily get a top man to fuck them, they believe they are entitled to the same top man to commit. Many women enter into friends with benefits relationships believing they will turn it into a committed relationship, but the 10% of guys getting casual sex are drowning in pussy while 80% get nothing or very little. Then these same women have done casual/ friends with benefits and find out that decent men don't want to commit to them after they've fucked around and built up their cock count with top men and are looking to settle for men perceived as being less attractive.

As much as some men may not be down with the partner counts, the counts are applicable to both men and women alike. Some women don’t want man hoes either. I think nowadays, men and women are too shallow to commit and when the going gets tough, people give up too easily. My grandparents (despite of their flaws bc every generation has them) were madly in love with each other & worked through some hard shit like I don't know WW2! Nowadays, that kind of bond seems close to extinction. Very few people are willing to stand strong through difficult times, which is super lame. Loyalty is next to impossible bc there’s always this need to feed this desire for more. Being enough is never enough. Not all women who want careers, love/sex, marriage etc are out there to get hot dudes. I’ve had my fine share of miserable dates with “hot” dudes. It’s finding the kind, loyal, sweet and committed ones in an era of vanity that makes it so difficult. People are also just jaded too who do try & that translates over to a diff heap of things.

@Matcha19 i agree with some of what you said. People nowadays are jaded and way too shallow and bail when the going gets tough or when they get bored, but you overlook the phenomenon where a majority of women utilize their sexual attractiveness in their 20s to date the top men leaving the bottom 80% of men with little to no dating prospects at all. There's a reason why one-third of 30 year old males are virgins, yet a very miniscule amount of women at that age are, because women are able to have sex with top 10% of men even though they're unsuccessful at getting those men to commit. Still, they enter friends with benefits and casual hookups to give themselves the illusion that they can "get" the top men, then when reality hits and they are uncommitted and alone in their 30s, now significantly less sexually attractive than in their 20s, these women eventually "settle" for the men they should have been dating in their 20s, those men that are their comparable matches, but since men realize this and a lot refuse to be the guy she "settles for", men nowadays by and large are unwilling to commit after being overlooked and tossed aside in their 20s, left sexless and dateless. No man wants to be "settled for" and know she's been with hotter guys that she gave her best sex and her youthful energy to, usually much quicker than the "relationship guy" she's now willing to settle for. Men despise the thought of their girlfriend/wife/mother of their children was sexually promiscuous and did things with other guys while now she's turned a new leaf and is making her new relationship guy wait and get other men's leftovers.

Because women demand a lot and give precious little in return.

I say this as someone who has a fantastic relationship with women; the vast majority of y'all aren't anywhere near as pleasant to interact with as you've been made to believe.

Not worth the effort. I tried asking women for dates for a few years, and no one was interested. Then this random gal, that I'd only chatted online with for a few months, said she was in town and wanted to actually see me face to face. I'm married to her now.

One reason: money. American girls are expensive gold diggers and the economy is murder right now.
