Why would a male friend of mine set up a fake profile on Instagram just to compliment me?

So I put the profile through Google lens and as I suspected it was a fake account. He used his name and my nickname in his profile pic but with a picture of a Brazilian surgeon called Fernando Gomes Pinto who apparently is frequently used by scammers and catfishes online. I knew immediately something was up and after a little digging yes it was a fake account and I reported them. I’m pretty sure it was either this male friend or someone close to him. We have a long history, and he always teases me, flirts, makes suggestive remarks, and eavesdrops on my conversations with others. He has a girlfriend however who he chose over me. But all this fake profile did was to tell me I was a very beautiful lady, and I was pretty etc. It was just all around dodgy and very specific so I know it’s him but I won’t be saying anything because of the plausible deniability. This account had changed its name 6 times also before using his name and my nickname..
