Some do. Of course there is a lot of light on the eyes at the beach. The sun itself, the reflection off the water, and the sand reflecting the light. And you should have some protection from all that for your eyes. But a lot of guys are wearing the reflective lens sunglasses so that they can stare without being caught. But the gals at the beach are usually wise to that. Some of the gals don't mind, but many do. So the best thing to protect your eyes is to wear sunglasses that diminish the ultraviolet rays and a cap with a bill to shade the eyes.
Gals can wear the reflective glasses to hide the fact that they are staring at guys.

Its a little bit of both. Not get caught looking and bright sunlight.
Now women do same. No woman can tell me they wouldn't look at guy's chest and stomach and possibly look at butt. What (on a guy) would look more attractive to look at, a flat chiseled belly or fat hairy belly?

I'd think it's because you're usually at the beach when it's sunny, and overdoing it with UV exposure to your eyes comes with worse consequences than triggering insecure women.
