What does it mean when a guy calls you sweetheart?

We are both around the same age. 24… and I needed to get by him. He said “I’m sorry sweetheart “… and he said that no one calls him by his real name. I call him by his real name.

Sometimes he gives me fist bump, tells me keep up the good work, he playful… he’s playful with others tho. He’s asked “how are you”

But I think he may be hung on his ex I don't know

Some people just talk like that. I have a co-worker, 30 years my junior, who knows I've been married about as long as she's been alive, and she calls me "hun", "sweetie" or "sweetheart" ALL the time. Now I have no desire or expectation of a more than co-worker relationship with her, nor do I think she does of me either. I like her, I think she's great at her job and I'm happy she there making my workday easier and more pleasant, but that's it.

So maybe this guy meant something more than that, but maybe not.
