Weird behavior from boss?

My boss and I both work remote. Some days he will spend 3 to 5 hours with me on a call. I will ask all my questions and he will linger. He isn't inappropriate but will basically hang out with me over the phone. I try to tell him if he needs to go he can or if other people need him he can get off etc. But he won't. He will just sit in silence with me and listen to me work while he works side by side me on a way. I am pretty certain he doesn't do that with anyone else. It gives me anxiety that I might say something dumb or embarrassing.

Then after spending so much time with me the next day or a few days later he then is acting differently and gets off the call as soon as I ask my questions. It confuses me and I don't know how to handle the inconsistency. I never know what to expect. How do I handle this? Is it weird or is it just me? Help?

You can use any excuse to get off the call. If you have a kid, say you have to go see what your kid's up to, go cook then food, give then a bath if they are little, take them somewhere, etc. If you have a dog, say you have to take it for a walk. Or say you have to go grocery shopping, or Go meet your husband, boyfriend, or one of your family members for lunch or dinner, or you have to go to the doctor, DMV, etc. Or you can just say when he's done talking about work "ok, I'm going to go and get working on this"

Okay, first of all, you have no idea if he does that with anyone else, and frankly why does it matter? You are 30-35 years old, you should know how to excuse yourself from a phone call. Maybe he feels like you need additional help or something. I wouldn't even worry about it. Just perform your job duties at a high level, everything else will take care of itself.

It's like a teams conference call. I guess I just need to be more adamant about having to leave.
