He could be bored but he might also like you but is a bit too shy to speak to you. If you see him and again smile at him, say something to break the ice and see where that goes.

The more time you spend with or around someone, the more habits and qualities you'll learn about that person. That is something that automatically happens.

It doesn't mean anything, it's just an observation we make as we spend more time with or around a person. That goes for you too. If you keep seeing a colleague eat a snack at 10 AM, you make the observation that he likes to eat a snack at 10 AM. It doesn't mean that you have feelings for that person. You're just noticing a pattern in his behavior.
