is it different for an acquaintance vs a friend be romantic interest?

do you see it as a burden to have to do so or you don’t mind? does it bother you when people ask?

i do not like to walk alone at night bc i’ve been groped and followed before, but i always feel guilty asking. even if someone offers, i feel like i must politely decline and i can only accept if they then insist on it.

If She was an acquaintance, I'd be suspicious and it would be a burden.

If She was a friend, I'd want Her to be safe, so I would be fine with it.

If She was a romantic interest (given that we were already friends), I'd like to spend as much time as possible with Her, so I would be more than fine with it.

I mean... I'd want to know the reason for Her trusting me more than any other random person in this world (or, realistically speaking, in the neighborhood). If She's just an acquaintance, it's set by default that She has no such reason, and that is suspicious, because the both of us are not the only ones in the know about this state of matters. This could easily be leveraged in some plot to accuse me of some assault while there were just the two of us, and no one would have an important enough rational reason not to believe this kind of lie.

If you don't want to feel guilty, do this: Make some polite smalltalk while you walk so it's not awkward. Once you arrive, thank him and tell him that you felt safe with him. Believe me, there is no higher compliment a woman (or anyone really) could give a man, even if they have a completely platonic relationship. Put a smile on top (without being flirty unless you want to), and he'll definitely feel it was worth it.
