Why did my coworker not respond after months of flirting?

I am interested in my boss and we had a flirtation going for months, but when I asked him for food, he did not reply over text. What do I do now? Is our friendship ruined? Do I ask him about it in person? I asked him after over a year of the below behavior.

Context:

He used to say he misses me every chance he gets

He used to play footsie with me on occasion

He used to say he liked teasing me and would smile around me

He'd make jokes to make me laugh

We'd exchange stories and discuss common interests

What now?
