When NORMAL people like you, they usually don't say they "despise" you. Teasing IS a way that people show they are attracted to and like you.
But I certainly find his words off-putting. I would never say that someone who professes that he "despises" you really means he "loves" you. That is too far-fetched.
I don't know what game he's playing, but I'd say, back off of it with this guy. What he said just doesn't feel right to me.
