Yeah that is totally fine. Shorts aren't inappropriate or suggestive clothing. At least I hope they aren't because I wear shorts all the time when the weather is nice. Unless he is some perv that sexualizes you when you have shorts on (that's weird) then wear what you want and what's comfortable. I just can't imagine how shorts can be an issue but then again the stuff I read on this site every day tends to shock me. Do what makes you comfortable.
