Guys, is it still "popular" to wait three days before calling a girl?

So... there used to be a popular theory (back in the '90s) to wait three days to call a girl. (This was pre-cellphone, pre internet, etc. when we thought giant car phones were fancy.)

Does it still apply today? I ask because there are scads of questions from panicked 18-20+ youth about texting or calling a person... as if they've never talked to another person before in their lives.

Personally, I would say the same rule of thumb for "first contact" after receiving a number is the same as the one for contacting a prospective employer after a job interview. After an interview we used to write a little thank you note (I always had it ready in my purse to give to the receptionist); later when email became a thing we emailed the note on the same day as the interview (or the following morning if the interview was held in the evening). If we missed that communication cue... typically the employer would presume we weren't as interested as the people who did their due diligence to write.

In dating (particularly now that we have text/IM/DM options galore), why would anyone wait 3+ days to text anyone? It just doesn't make sense.

I'd like G@G guys to weigh in. (I'll ask the gals separately.)
