Confused about statement?

Was taking to one of my new colleagues after a meeting. I notice he had a cool coffee mug so I ask if it was a specific character logo. Turns out I was right and it was Stars wars. He said he was surprise I knew the character since it’s kind of subtle. Had a conversation about Stars Wars. Before leaving the conference room he mention , “just when I thought I could love you any more, can’t believe you like Stars Wars”.

i only had brief work related conversations with him and nothing much. How can I avoid anything getting awkward. 😬

Ugh that's such an annoying comment for him to make. Like, you barely know each other from work! Who says something like that?

I wouldn't worry too much about it getting awkward though. Guys sometimes say stupid stuff without thinking. If anything else weird happens definitely shut it down right away.

For now just play it cool. If he brings it up again just laugh it off like "haha what a dork" and change the subject. Keep conversations casual and about regular work stuff.

If he tries flirting just stay friendly but distant. Like appreciate the compliment but don't engage or joke back. Keep things professional.

Hopefully that was just a one off awkward comment and he doesn't actually think he's in love haha. But good you caught it early - now you know to keep an eye out for any other red flags from him. Don't stress, just stay chill!!

You avoid it being awkward by just ignoring it and chalking it up to the dude being socially inept. I really don't know what he was thinking, but I'd give him a pass this time.
