A guy could want to bang any girl, ugly or not, if he's up to it and telling a girl she's pretty is just him being tongue-in-cheek nice about it: good for a lay but I'm not staying past midnight. He could even not want to bang the girl and just still be nice, because she could be a good friend and doesn't want to put her down. Sometimes, it's a way of putting the girl down nicely or else cowardly rejecting the girl based on that alone (especially if she said she wanted to be boyfriend/girlfriend which entails sex).

what you're probably really asking is "is this person lying to me" or "does this guy who called me pretty like me." the answer is people lie, so just be honest with yourself, both in humility and in confidence. and only pretty well socially adjusted men will give genuine compliments without a hint of romantic interest to women.

As others have pointed out, "pretty" is a subjective judgment, is NOT a measure of your worth and is not the only factor in forming a relationship.

People lie and often times avoid uncomfortable conversations.

That being said it's hard to know what a person genuinely finds attractive or not.

Men are not as shallow as they pretend to be.
We love to say we have standards and such but ultimately the heart wants what the heart wants

Well yes I believe so because see a girl and seeing that she's beautiful andbeing attracted to her are not the same thing so he can find you unattractive to date yes but just seeing you as pretty is something else, it's like when you look at art that others might think is ugly but you think it's beautiful.

Depends on the guy. Our ancestors were smarter than us because they never had this problem. Virtually all women were physically attractive so it was never an issue. When you live in a society where you're told you can live whatever lifestyle you want, be as fat or as lazy as you want to be and nobody has the right to criticize, then you run into problems.

There are lots of reasons a guy would lie to a girl about that. Because he wants her to feel better, or because lying is easier than telling her the unpleasant truth, or whatever.

But most guys won't be dumb enough to give too many compliments like that to a woman they don't find attractive, in case she mistakenly thinks he's flirting and starts flirting back.

I’m honest with everyone I talk to because I see no reason to lie that being said I have no prejudice towards anyone in all honesty. Everyone is beautiful. Looks can be deceiving. Just remember that I would rather really ugly girl who is kind to me than a really hot one who is a bitch
