I don't know if I’m overthinking but I feel like that’s more of a friendzone response? Also, should I continue the convo or just like his message?

Just ask him what he plans on doing today. Do you live near him? If you do you should grab him a small gift or card too. It doesn't have to be extravagant or expensive but it does show that you care about his special day.

If you really want to be bold. I would just ask him about meeting up for coffee or food on another day too.., say a few days later. You need him to know and understand that you are interested in him.
