Do men need to put more effort into being attractive?

I turned 40 this year and started to feel old and unattractive. I talked with a male friend that went through a bad midlife crisis and he said that you need to adjust your mindset not feel bad about being a middle aged man. If you’re a straight woman and generally find men my age attractive are there things guys my age can do to be more attractive for our partners?

Attraction is such a subjective thing but I get what you are saying. So I'm bi and at least half qualify for who you are looking for answers from. While I can't say that I've ever been asked out by a guy around your age nor would I be likely to date one I will say that keeping in shape is probably going to be your biggest asset and also challenge. Some people are lucky with genes and can grow old and be in shape without much work or at least look it. Most people aren't so lucky and have to work hard at keeping their bodies in shape and especially true the older you get. I only really know this because of my own two parents. Now they are older than you but I remember how much more they both did physical exercise the older they got. They also changed the type of exercise to cardio heavy. I think a guy that is older and stays in shape tells me he values his health and wants to be around for the long haul.

That's why I think keeping healthy is an all around attractive quality in general. It shows people that you are putting your best self forward and work hard at it.

Attractiveness isn't hard to define, if your disgusted by your face you're unattractive. Best way to determine is look at your stomach\chest area ( it is symmetrical) then move the mirror up to your face if you notice a change in perception then you ugly. Thats how im able to tell.

once that's more under control and balanced... attractiveness can happen

I never ever had to put any extra effort on being attractive... no struggle, no pretending, no planning... all I worked on and focused was on being -alright- with myself, in my mindset and the rest... just happened here and there

Most don't, no. The women that would tell you that they do generally are just bitter flags that they have to. So they want to see guy jump through hoops. The reality is most guys a actions and personality is what's most noticeable to good women.

I workout on a regular basis, watch my diet, do not drink or use drugs. My wife thinks I look good for an older guy so that is what counts.
