Why guys play women or take advantage of them?

I was completely taken advantage of by a man I thought I knew and trusted him with a lot, including being around my children. He acted so charismatic and was very persistent in trying to be with me since he has had a major crush on me and still does. I've been a single widow for more than a decade, so I was intrigued and a little shocked. I am also eventually fell in love with him and, of course, wanted more with him. I feel taken advantage of by someone I've known for years and didn't even think twice. How do I move on and not fall for it for a second time? Even after all he did, i still love him and will probably always will.

It’s not a good feeling to be taken advantage of, I’m sorry to hear about your experience. I think one of the hazards of falling in love is getting hurt. Give yourself time to heal emotionally and when you’re ready stay open to the possibility of finding love.

Because they are only interested in their needs, and will do what it takes to get what they want.
Not all men are like that, but some are very good at convincing someone that they aren't like that at all.

So many. I'll list a few. He and I have been friends since we were teenagers, and now I'm 44, and we're still friends. I have always trusted him with everything, in this case my feelings. He knew I had been single for over a decade and has had a crush on me since we were teenagers but never said anything because he thought he didn't have a chance. He treated me like I was special to him and I felt it. He said the most kind, complimentary, and wonderful things to me. A big thing that really got me was that he was so attracted to me and was always telling me how beautiful and hot and sexy I was even when I looked my worse. That really got to me. That was the 1st time in over a decade a guy has ever said that to me and the more I heard it, the more I started to realize how much I missed the intimacy of being physical with someone felt. He was very charismatic and we made an arrangement;friends with benefits. Because I trusted that he wouldn't hurt me, knew how fragile I was, and was a friend. The only thing I knew about friends with benefits, is that it's just physical and nothing more. Which I was ok with. There's so much left and I'm super tired so I'll try to finish tomorrow.

He knew I was in a vulnerable position and was someone I had always trusted. I trusted him with my feelings and he turned out to be someone I didn't know anymore when our friendship turned into something more. He was well aware of my past, losing my husband to suicide in 2013 and that I had not dated or been intimate with anyone in over a decade. Long story short, I fell in love with him quickly and strongly. He said/acted the same when we were together; however, his actions did not match his words. By this time, I was already in love and ended it, so as to not get hurt even further. There's a lot more to it and it's complex, but I have learned a very important lesson from this.
