Should I ask him to pee sitting down?

I’m roommates with my cousin. He’s male, 20 years old. He goes to university, and plays hockey. He transferred to this university at the start of the school year because it has a better hockey program. We live together on the main floor of a house near the university.

We are forced to share a bathroom. At first, everything was going fine! I was actually impressed by how clean and organized he seemed to be. But then, I started to notice a problem in the bathroom. Right behind the toilet, the floor is slowly (but surely) starting to turn yellow. I noticed it about month after he moved here. This is because he pees standing up. I have cleaned the bathroom a few times, including the floor. But no matter how hard I try, I cannot get 100% of the yellow color off the tile floor behind the toilet. This one section of floor is more yellow compared to the rest of the bathroom floor. This was not the case prior to him moving here. He is still continuing to pee standing up. I don’t know how to talk to him about it… I find it awkward.

You can ask, but don't be surprised if he continues to pee standing up, what he's learned to do over many years. It's hard to break a habit.

It might be easier to just have him clean the toilet, and the floor around it, at least once a week. That's a reasonable chore for the privilege of living with you.

I'd point out to him how the floor is discolored since he has moved in. Warn him he'll have to live somewhere else if he doesn't stop peeing on the floor. Suggest he sit to pee, or find some other way to correct the problem, plus do his share of the cleaning as you are not his mother.

Some men have difficulty peeing sittting down. I think just ask him to be more accurate. Maybe find a sticker to put in the bowl that he can aim at.
