Why would sitting down be a faux pas in the restroom for a male? What difference does it functionally make?

In my experience, I have to sit. Here's why: I had meatal stenosis (narrowing of the hole) due to neglectful parents as an infant (also very common in circumcised babies only). It was about a 2mm hole. This caused a high pressure stream that came out at an odd angle, almost 90 degrees, so I had aiming issues. It also caused splitting and bleeding at the end. My mother would yell at and beat me if she found urine anywhere, so I was expected to sit.

Once I was old enough, and had saved up enough money, I went to a urologist to discuss the issues. The fix is either stretching the hole with metal rods (sounds), and is a lifelong process, or the other option is to enlarge the hole by cutting.

This is done freehand, as a clamp and cut procedure, sometimes with or without stitches. The downside is that the doctor may make the hole too large, expecting it to close up slightly. That results in a showerhead when urinating.

So, because of all that, I sit. If anyone has a problem with that, they can live with it, or step up beside me and watch in horror as they, along with much of the surroundings, are sprayed with urine. When camping this obviously isn't a huge issue.

Sometimes there is no justice, and we live the best we can, but judging one's masculinity based on seated or standing position to urinate is, in a word, repugnant.

I don't see why this matters. Why are we so obsessed with gender stereotypes that we care how people pop a squat to piss or shit now? It doesn't change anything. Even your classic "Christian Grey," hyper-dominant man could secretly sit down to pee and prop himself up in a crouching position to give more power to his taking a shit and no one would know the difference if he didn't admit to it.

Besides... Even if it is weired or someone thinks it's wrong... Who's going to know?
Unless he mentions it... It's not like anyone is checking... I'm assuming there always alone... I mean I can think of a few situations where he might not be.. but at home in a bathroom or in public in a stall... Or what ever... It's not common for someone to be watching you to know...

The only real way I can think of it being out there for someone else to know... Is his partner... And honestly if you his partner then even if you find it weird... It should be something that ruins a relationship... And if it is... Then he didn't need you/them...

Other then your personal preference there's literally no consequences either way... In fact it causes less mess too clean up if he sits down verses standing and either missing or the mist that builds up over time...

Also... When I say "you" or "your" I'm not actually trying to address you as the asker directly... I'm referring to in general who ever is on the other end of the situation that could be chastising a man for peeing during down...

I personally think it's a little off but who cares... I'm not the one peeing... He is... And if that's what he wants to do then more power to him and screw anyone that thinks it matters enough to make it an issue

I've been sitting to whiz ever since I became the only person using and cleaning my toilet.
My aim standing up had always been impeccable, but when it came time to clean the bathroom, I could see that there was urine splatter all around and on the toilet. No matter how good your aim is or what "technique" you may think works, it's going to splatter.
So I cleaned up the whiz one last time and have been sitting ever since.
I'd be a fool to make more work for myself by standing up to pee.
If I'm in a nasty bathroom away from home, or if I'm outside, I'm standing up.
Naysayers, in my opinion, have either never cleaned a toilet or have issues that ought to be dealt with.

I think in Dante's "Divine Comedy" whertre he wrote about the ten circles of hell describing what transgressions got you to that level and what pain you will be subjected to at that level, peeing while sitting down is at about level 7, there is a caveat on that which reads as follows, "this punishment does not apply to men if their reason for sitting while peeing as long as their reason for sitting was to read the sports section of an available newspaper, On the other hand, men who sit down to pee when they are at a urinal and not a regular toilet will get additional punishment for being stupid and allowing other guys to piss on them until they stop sittinhg in urinal. Should that be the only option available (sitting on urinal) additional fines are levied if you walk out of a men's room with a lovely urinal cake stuck to your pants.

Yes it is. I believe that those that practice Islam or Muslim they pee sitting down because urine is considered unclean and standing chances it getting on clothes and the body.

For everything else, I still think that its ok to pee sitting down. People may think that it may be weird or unusual but so be it. Pee in any position, as long as it comes out the body with no obstructions or complications.

Yes, it's okay & understandable.

Some guys have a very strong piss flow that they prefer to sit and avoid splashing their pee so they don't have to make an extra effort to clean up their pee splashes.

Meanwhile, other guys might have bladder issues wherein their pee trickles down little-by-little and sitting to piss seems to help them relieve themselves.

Yeah I do it all the time, honestly most of the time I'm tired and don't feel like standing up if I don't have to, also sprau is gonna get on the seat, unless you have a literal hose end on you dick, there's gonna be some misting spray, so i typically just sit down, unless im camping or somthing

My late Grand-dad was told at the Hosptial after his throat cancer operation that he should pee sitting down cause it empties the bladder better and he was told that Males have a tendency of not fully emptying their bladder when they pee so who knows?

It's what my roommate does and honestly he complains of pee splatter on the floor so I just avoid peeing standing up while I'm at my house.

But it can be done it's just not very practical for a guy. Plus it's extra co vid protection when out in public 😉

LOL!! Might touch the water!! :) NO!! Nothing wrong with sitting, as sometimes when your bladder is super-full, it feels like you might need to do the other, too! Also, it seems to drain better, sitting. Not every time, but just those times, maybe in the middle of the night?
I've know a few women that try to pee, standing (ok, they were drinking, A LOT) and it was kind of funny, and somehow special, with this same question, but reversed!! :) :)
