Why would a guy care if a girl is ignoring him?

There was a coworker whome said he had feelings for me a while back but said (because he is bi) that he would want to be in a relationship with me and a man. So I, not being ok with that decided to move on and ignore him, but he told me that if he can't have me at all, he'd rather have me as his friend. Again, wanting more than friendship I was not ok with that so I decided to move on with my life. well, lately he's been saying I'm a brat and he said something snarky to me when I was talking to someone else so the guy said to just smack him but I just said, "nah, I'll just ignore him" and then he piped up saying, "we'll, she's been doing that to me for a while." Why did he say it in that way? He doesn't want me. He wants the man instead.

I'm a little confused by this question. Unless there something more to the story, it seems like the situation is self explanatory.
