Why did this guy block me because I didn’t open or read his message for 3 days on Facebook?

For context, I don’t know him that well, we are from the same town so we’ve known who each other are since we were teens and so I’ve seen him around for years and plus he’s friends with my cousin. Him and I are not friends and barely know each other. If I saw him around I’d just say hi nothing else.

He used to date my friends sister but they broke up last year.

I’m 30 and he’s 36.

A few months ago he was at my uncles birthday party and we briefly chatted as I hadn’t seen him in years.

He sent me a message the next day asking if I wanted to meet up and I replied and said I was away back to work but thanks for asking and he said have a good night, I said you too! And we left it at that.

On Tuesday he me a message saying let’s hang out on Facebook.

I do not use Facebook or messenger so I rarely look at it to be honest as I’m not a big social media user.

Anyway I saw the message notification but I didn’t open it. I was super busy so I didn’t want to read it and ignore him so I didn’t reply for a few days after he sent it. I travel a lot for work and was having a bad week.

I replied on Friday and said the next time I’d be back in town was Christmas ( I work away from home) then he unsent his message and blocked me. He has also unfollowed me on insta because I checked.

Have I dodged a bullet or am I a horrible person for not replying sooner?
