If you think about the year 1800, at least 46 percent of young children died before age 5. By 1905 it was still 22% in the United States! Twenty-two percent is an outrageous number of young children! But by 1945 it was only 5%.

Today the number is between 2-10 children per 1000 births die before age five. Somewhere around 1% of children born.

So vaccines have saved millions of lives and continue to every day.

Sorta similar to the Benz story, Earl Haas invented the tampon bc he saw his wife had a hard time with just rags & wanted to make something better. I think that's great invention & great inspiration for it!

As for GREATEST invention I'd prolly say plumbing. Makes getting water into & out of cities & homes much quicker—& fire hydrant systems too. It's such old invention I don't know who exactly first thought of & made it in each area, so prolly not ONLY men did this, but they certainly helped with it a lot so that's great either way! :)
