Human being are very ingenious, in fact human were able to discover and invent a lot of things.
The first important discovery was fire, thank to it, we were able to improve our life condiction and to create a lot of things thanks to it.

Even if human beings did a lot of horrible things, we were also able to do beautiful and useful things. Thanks to the discovery of new technology we were able to fly, to go to the moon, etc.
According to Nation Geographic this is the top 10 of the most important inventions human being were able to do:

4) Personal computer

Telephone and light bulbs and all electrical in between. Having that said though, have to comment on that picture. Namely, Tesla invented the regular white bulb just as well the fluorescent one. He also invented the electric car before gasoline/oil derivates run car even existed. He set the sketches for possible "invisible" ways of connecting devices and sharing information via waves. Upon his sketches, the wi fi technologies were developed... And he lived in 19th/early 20th century... Edison stole light bulb as well as few other of Tesla's inventions while Tesla worked for him. Then he invented the lie that he came up with it after 999 unsuccessful tries, and then he somehow succeded... Blah - just a story to sell on behalf of motivational feel to it. He was famous and Tesla was just starting to be well known. Tesla then abandoned him and started to work alone. Whole his life he was just tried to be run over by greedy corporationalists... J. P. Morgan and the crowd. And he died alone and poor. So sad. He refused to share Nobel prize with Edison from pure spite and principle. - Now that's some principle!

He is probably indeed the greatest inventor of all times.

@Djaay until pencil was created, different types of archaic versions existed, including stylus, writing with feather... In very old times writing by engraving into stone if you want. People always had ways of transferring the information. What is that of use if you have no great mind and great ideas to share?
Also, truly genius people often calculate in their mind. Reading Tesla's autobiography, one senses he truly despised "slow" and "ineffective" ways how ordinary people tend to do things. So indeed, he'd probably do fine nevertheless...

Well, without the development of writing, all the others you list there wouldn't have been possible (especially the printing press and the personal computer). The passing on, and sharing, of information trumps all the rest in my view :)

What should be added?
1. THE TRANSISTOR. The transistor is absolutely critical to electronics. Without the transistor - the most important invention in the second half of the 20th Century - no modern electronics exist. Certainly no PCs or smart phones.
2. THE PLOW. Without the plow, there is no civilization. Period.

Don't agree with the top 10 but mostly right. You can't have a real top 10 without mentioning the internal Combustion engine. Yes that's what cars have but the engine is broader than just cars, planes, heavy construction vehicles, military vehicles, manufacturers lines for mass producing all our shit.
