At some point does it get pathetic saying ''I love you or you're the love of my life'' in relationships?

Nowadays more relationships end up in break-ups. So what was that ''I love you'' or ''you're the love of my life'' words for if you can replace them easily with someone else if things don't work out?

Too many stories of people claiming they always loved an ex so much and still love them, how they were the love of their lives.. yeah so much that you didn't end up forming a family with them. Do those words get so pathetic at some point? Why say too much if you're not going to remain with them long-term? Why say too much if they'll just end up as only distant memories and feeling invested, nothing else?

Well, usually for the moment in time, those words being expressed feel appropriate even if you don’t end up staying w/ whoever you expressed that stuff w/ vice versa. I honestly think it’s just a novelty thing. I use to be that person in only one of my relationships and they were the type who always said it back & would even top that w/ something even “more romantic” - looking back, that relationship was SOOOfucking CRINGE. I’m glad I got to live that “super romantic” type of relationship bc it met my needs to “feel” like I had a romantic/novelty relationship but now I see that that level of “love” being expressed is not ever usually heathy or realistic.


So yes, I do agree it does seem a little pathetic but it can be very sweet in the moment if you have a partner that doesn’t really express verbal affection

In the end… all we have are memories. You could say the same thing about a couple who were together for 50 years and one of them died…. Why waste “I love you” on someone who is just going to die.
How much time you spend together is unknown. Is it a week, a month, a year or a lifetime…. No one knows. Treat everyone like it’s only going to be a week a you’ll have a miserable life. Treat people (who you like) as if you want them in your life forever and you’ll have a better life. Remember that forever has an expiration date…. We just don’t know when that date is.

I'm referring to relationships that throw away ''I love you'' too often, only to end up in break-up, then they keep on remembering the good times, how they were the love of their lives but never get married and have kids.
