Clarification: Being diagnosed with narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) by a doctor as defined in the DSM-5 is different than exhibiting a behavior that is a little self-centered or "narcissistic". I mean, most people exhibit behavior that could be considered narcissistic from time to time, and it doesn't mean they have NPD. It means they are human.

I think it depends on how often, and why you are doing it. I think if we are working toward a goal, it can be motivating to take a pic to compare with previous ones for ourselves or maybe to share with a few friends. But if someone takes multiple pictures and selfies of themselves at the gym and posts those on social media regularly, that seems narcissistic. The angle is telling, too:

"Look at my poochy lips, enhanced booty and new sports bra..." or

"Look at my Atlas bod, ladies... One kiss, twenty-five dollars..."

versus "full body mirror shot to compare to previous full body mirror shot". If I am going from an average but healthy weight to competition-level fitness, that's hard work and I would want to record that for myself. I'm not going to post it online, though, except maybe to share with a couple friends.

It’s been really overdone and really just kind of silly because if you’re taking the pic for yourself, there’s a contraption called a mirror you can look at… done! And if you’re taking the pic to share on social media it’s just bragging and poor taste… unless you’re part of some program to get fit or lose weight that REQUIRES you to take selfies.

Almost 100% of selfies are narcissistic.
Young people may need to sit down for this reality check. We went damn near a century before the average person took a picture at all, let alone every day. And millions of pictures exist showing all the fabulous places people went and fun things they did without their own contrived poses and facial expressions mucking up the foreground. Pure narcissism, nothing more and nothing less, compelled changes in that trend.
Gyms have had mirrors for generations so you can watch your own form if you’re too cheap to hire a trainer. Cameras in the gym are 100% narcissistic, unless you’re trying to prevent crime. Then that’s on the gym, not the membership.

Honestly, yes. Girls may deny this because most of girls like showing their goods off in public. It's fine to take a picture of yourself, but as soon as you post it online for others to see, it becomes a validation thing.

You can take pictures for yourself to track your progress over time, but if you feel the need to share them online for likes and clout, THAT is narcissistic.
