Were they just messing with us?

I was sitting with a friend at a snack bar, and we happen to look quite alike. A group of guys nearby thought we were twins.

At some point, I asked one of the guys if he could make some room so we could pass and sit down. He responded, "Yeah, of course, you can. You always can."(This was strange because we’d never seen or spoken to them before, so we had no idea why he said, "you always can.")

Behind us, there was another group of guys who suddenly started play-fighting with each other out of nowhere and kept staring at us.
It seemed odd, but after that, they began walking past us repeatedly and stared at us. We could also hear them talking about twins several times.

Then, we saw a girl and two guys walking toward the restroom. We overheard one of them saying, "Oh, they’re going in together. Wait, is the girl going to the women’s restroom?" So we knew they were talking about others at the snack bar.
It was really strange because it actually didn't look like all of them were heading into the same restroom.
These guys seemed to notice every little detail, watching every move of others and talked about everything very loudly.

At one point, one of them walked past us, and we heard another guy loudly ask, "Did you take a picture of her?" And then he looked at me while he said that.
That was when we decided to leave and sit somewhere else.
But even then, they kept watching everything we were doing.

Why would they take pictures of us?
It’s not like we’re from a museum or anything..
We’re not even famous..
Why would that happen to us?
Were they just messing with us?
