Why do women get mad when men mention another woman's name?

It's not the mere mention of another woman's name. It's when and how often the guy mentions the other person. For instance...

Gal: "Are you able to make it tonight?"
Guy: "Sure. Is Jane coming?"
Gal: (Thinking WTF?) "No. I didn't ask her."
Guy: "Ok. Got you."
Then at the restaurant (or wherever you are) he brings Jane up again.
Gal: 🤨 😒 Would you have rather I invited her?
Guy: (Wide-eyed, just realizing he's dug himself a hole) What? No? No no no. Why? This is great.
("This is great" is guy code for he wishes Jane was wrapped around him but he's sitting there with the present gal. He'll probably text Jane later for a booty call.)

Another example...

Guy: I saw your friend Jane... (and this becomes the start of his reflection about a conversation he had with Jane... who is for some reason on his mind though he's introducing the topic as if Jane should be on the gal's mind... Gaslighting anyone?)
Gal: 🤨 😒

or

Guy: Jane's leaving for ___ soon. She was given a really good offer and should take it.
Gal: 🤨 😒
(Again, guy code for he's tried and failed with Jane.)

And that, young man, is why women will give you the stinkeye for mentioning a woman's name either too often or in certain contexts.

Women can be very catty and resent a man mentioning a woman they view as a potential love rival for said man's affections.

Its stunning how much men can be insecure and women can be resentful of other prettier women - ironically i wonder if even a less than woman still makes them catty like an uglier woman

It is a random woman he simply mentioned in a non-sexual sort of way and his girlfriend went bananas over the whole situation. It was also uncomfortable for me having to be there trying to defuse the situation.

I can’t speak for all women but, I would say in general we do not. If it seems that way, there is something else going on, like maybe you talk about a particular woman too much, or, maybe you are talking about a woman she is threatened by for whatever reason (it could be a good or bad reason).

For example say he has a mom, and a sister, and an elderly female neighbor, and a middle aged married coworker, and a sexy young coworker, and an old flame. You can see where I am going w this, if he brings up any of those people even kind of often, there are two on the list who might lead to bad feelings in most cases. JMO!

He is not dating anybody at the moment. He likes the girl who he mentioned the other women's name to. She got upset about it and smacked his drink with her hand, almost knocking it into his lap. Besides, he simply mentioned her name in general.

once the girl who was cutting my hair started pulling on it aggressively (she hadn;t been up to this point) when I started talking about my at the time girlfriend. Thing is she was married as well. Y'all are weird.
