If someone calls you a f**cker, would you take it as insult?

I was talking to this guy who’ve I’ve known for years and is quite immature to be around. Although he can be really nice to talk to every now and then.
Yesterday as I was heading to my job (Im a nurse and I work at the hospital, therefore I couldn’t always be on my phone)
He messaged me saying “ when are you going to send me a picture, fuckerr!”
Of course I take it as an insult, but am I overreacting?
He got mad when I told him that was rude and I didn’t think it was funny.
How would you take it as?

I can see how you’d take that as an insult, because you’re a chick. Chicks usually don’t talk to each other like that. Honestly I don’t think he meant it that way as far as being hurtful, just being an idiot male like a lot of us do to each other. A term of endearment. But too I would have to hear how he would have said it. That’s why I don’t like text messaging because there’s no emotion behind it as far as how something was meant to be heard vs read. When I was in the Marien Corps we talked to each other like that all the time. Worse. You’d call each other fuck face. Like what’s up fuck face. Fuck nuts, nothing much dick skinner. What’s up dick nose. You get the point. But to us that was a term of endearment. If we didn’t pick on you in the way or other ways it meant we didn’t give a shit about you. I work in medical too. Some of the women there have mouths like pirates. But in the end nothing has meaning unless you give it meaning.
