If he's not attracted to her, unless he's desperate, then there would be no reason to try to have sex with someone he doesn't find attractive.

If he finds her attractive,
Then it depends on whether he's only out for sex or for relationship or what he's after.
Some may only want casual sex.

But it is entirely possible to both be attracted to someone and be in love with someone and care about that person.
It doesn't always have to be just one thing.
It can also be everything.

Yeah, many guys will just try their luck (unless they know you well). EVEN sometimes if they DO know you well they'll suddenly be struck by something about you and (temporarily) want you. (That passes, but it can make for an awkward week or two.)
