He asked my instagram but does not interact?

hi everyone,

I am asking for your honest opinion here

So about two weeks ago when I was working at my part-time student job, I had some eye contact with a good looking guy several times. I noticed him going over to his friends while one of his other friends was still finishing off a transaction with my colleague and going back. Our tools are built in a way that we stand literally next to each other helping customers. So as I was serving several customers and having some Peakz I noticed that I didn’t get another customer but instead he came in from of my till and asked for my Instagram. I was a bit shocked but very much flattered, and gave it to him cause I was interested in him as well. Here’s the thing, after I finished my shift and accepted his request and followed him back. I noticed that he didn’t engage right after. Now that is not a problem with me but I interacted with him twice and the first time he did not even reply. The second time he did and asked me how I was and I politely replied followed up how he has been? But he did not reply on that neither :,) So my question to you is, what is your vision on this? Why would a guy ask for a girls Instagram and then doesn’t interact…

It’s possible that you misinterpreted what was going on. From the context, I could see how you thought there was some interest and I don’t want to take that completely off the table because there could be something there. At the same time, if I put myself in his shoes and I notice my coworker stealing glances at me or we keep catching one another looking, I would not immediately jump to thinking you are interested romantically and instead may be a bit socially awkward. Asking for your instagram is a good way to be a little friendlier since you do work together, plus it’s such a common thing to ask for socials these days, and that’s just me being very honest.


If we’re being more optimistic then we can say he’s shy or something, however you have tried initiating conversations (alleviating any necessity for a shy person to make that “scary” first move) since adding one another and he isn’t really trying to keep the ball rolling. That’s why altogether I think you’ve gotten the wrong impression.

It's possible he was initially interested but lost momentum, felt awkward about initiating conversation, or simply collected your Instagram for future potential without immediate intent. He might be shy, busy, or perhaps he's just not as invested as his initial action suggested. Ultimately, his lack of engagement indicates a lack of current interest, and it's best to focus your energy on people who reciprocate your effort.
