@BarryLiverstone It doesn't help either that a lot of men are so used to receiving no attention that simply acknowledging them gets their hopes up a tiny, tiny bit inside. A lot of us are so used to being ignored were confused when someone shows us basic kindness. We don't understand why someone would do that unless they were flirting. It took me a while to figure that out as a kid that sometimes people are actually just nice and don't have a motive. I still have a knee jerk reaction expecting there to be some kind of catch every time I'm treated well. After all these years when women acknowledge me nothing short of directly asking to start a relationship would register to me as flirting at this point. I'd just assume I met a woman that was particularly nice.
