Would you make such an offer even though you know you are making a conscious loss?

This guy and I are friends for 10 years now. He is my car mechanic and is repairing my cars.

My two cars are old wrecks and it would cost more to fix them than their resale value is. He has said on several occasions that he cannot sleep at night, so he is thinking about how to solve my problem, since I am not in a position to buy another car now. I thought he was joking, but the other day he started talking about it again and said he had a car for me and we would do a trade. I will give him my two defective cars for his good one. I know he already had buyers for that car of his, but he didn't want to sell it.

Would you accept the offer?

I would do some checking to see what all the vehicles are worth to be sure he is not trying to take advantage of you. If the value of your two cars is about that same as the car he wants to trade for, it is probably a good move.

I have checked the market value of my cars and the cost he would have to fix them provided he can ask for any significant price and there is little chance he will make a profit. At best, he would just not be at a loss
