Scenario: would you make this sacrifice?

You see a small child playing with a puppy and they are on a railroad. You have the option to save them both. You see briefly into the future. You can push the child holding the puppy out of the way in time but both of your legs would be amputated from the knees down. Your future would be a person who remains single for the rest of their life, no kids, and you'll never walk again. What's more your ordeal will be out of this world painful and you will be plagued with shadow pain the rest of your life. In this scenario social security has also run dry and gone bankrupt so you'll struggle to find work. Do you do it or leave the child and pooch to their fate? Answer honestly I won't think different of you either way.

I work in healthcare so for me being a hero has to be on everyday, even when you are hurting. Why would I never walk again? they make some kickass, things for amputees and who says I would be single the rest of my life? I have sacrificed a lot in my life but for every sacrifice comes some sort of hope or thought at the end of the day that I made that impact for me thats all life is about, if i can help someone in any way I can I do so. Much like being in that mall shooting in October- I didn't even think just reacted, grabbed a kid directed others to run and we ran. I could have been shot while trying to help others but it just never crossed my mind.

I would not make that decision in advance, but chances are I'd freeze for a few seconds and it would be too late by that point... unless of course the vision allowed for that.

As I am pregnant though, I need to make sure I can take care of myself and my baby when it comes, even at the cost of someone else who is obviously not taking good care of their child.

This is a very controversial and thoughtful question. Knowing myself, I probably wouldn't make this sacrifice. "If you can't save yourself, don't try to save others." Heroes are good in stories, self sacrifices look good in books and TVs. But it's not just a self sacrifice when you jump to save someone knowing you will be disabled for life. It's not just your life, but your family and friends will be affected as well. Does that mean my legs are more important than a child and puppy's life? Objectively speaking, they are not. But subjectively, they are. I have worked very hard to get where I am. My family has seen terrible times. Would I sacrifice my happiness and their happiness for an unknown child and a puppy who have unknown potential? I would not!

1. No, because I have responsibilities to my own family and I'm not going to cause my family long term suffering/burden because a random kid's parents aren't being responsible for their kid.

2. That said, if the scenario were I could trade my life to save a kid that's different because I know my family will be well provided for if something happened to me like that.

3. If I know there's a bunch of irresponsible parents having a convention & letting their kids run in the street & on the train tracks, I will be sure to stay 50 miles away.

It wouldn't matter what future I saw. I would do whatever it takes to try to save the child and the dog, and that probably involves putting myself at risk.

I'm a believer in separate timelines. Just because we see a future doesn't necessarily mean that's the way things have to turn out.

I don't think I would make the sacrifice although not making it carries its own burden of guilt and despair as well. That guilt and despair might be equally as crippling as losing both my legs in the way that you described.

I honestly dont give a hoot about the dog but im extremely tempted to save the child. I’d pray that the future could be changed because i’d trust in the Lord over some vision i just happened to see

No. I don't like kids, and whilst a dead dog is quite sad, I value my life and wellbeing above both.
