Guy gave me his number but always calls me “friend”… am I wrong to think it’s just a friend thing?

I met this guy gaming. We play together a few times a week usually. He goes on mic and I use the text chat mostly because being on mic in online games is such a bad environment as a woman. We got to know each other a bit and we get along. All the time, he says things like “sup friend” or something similar mentioning that I’m his friend.
Once in a while there is some mild banter happening but mostly I feel comfortable that he was approaching this as a friendship, especially because he kept saying “friend” to me. He recently wanted to exchange numbers and mentioned he is in touch with other male gaming friends via text as well. I feel a little worried he is trying to maybe change the dynamic of things by moving to texting because in my experience guys haven’t wanted my number if they weren’t interested. However we live far away from one another, where it would be a 6 hour flight at least to ever meet up… so it doesn’t seem rational that he would be expecting something.

do you think he just wants to get my number as a friend or is this a sign he is trying to make a move now?

The only time I even play games now is if my old gamer group friends want to play something, and that has become very seldom as we've all gotten older. The only person in that group that has my number, and it's almost all women, is the one I relate to most. We've done dumb things like personality tests together and we pretty much get the same answers all the time. Zero interest in doing any dating or meetups with her and we only exchanged numbers because we're hardly at our computers anymore. It really does help organize play time easier for me.

But take this with a grain of salt. Regardless of who it is, you're always taking a gamble by giving out your personal information, especially your phone number.

gonna be honest here all of my freinds are girls i currently have 5 freinds that are girls and they all have my number now if i ever decide to date i find its a good idea to tell the girl hey my freinds are all girls because blank so far i have not had to say more than that but if if he wants your number take it after all if he wants to date you badly enough he will ask you out
