This guy friendzoned me and said that I was hot AF but he wasn’t sure if he trusted me. We chat a lot still and lately he’s been dropping pet names like “doll”, “lovie” and most recently “babes”.

Is babes something guys call their female friends?

No, he was prioritising someone else and now she’s unavailable. I stay away from guys who treat me like plan B. I have been in situations where they stopped talking, I blocked because he ghosted me but after a few months he messaged me with another number. It's defo flirty.. I had a guy do the same thing but he always face timed me and called me cutie and would introduce me to his friends and work buddies. He is most likely just a player or someone who wants to sleep with you so don't trust him. A normal friend would not be mixing signals.
