What does it mean when a guy says we are more than just friends, but he doesn’t know exactly what type of relationship we have?

I think that's probably an honest. answer. We often times try to pigeon hole our feelings into concepts that don't quite fit. The word love has been misused many times so much that I doubt if any two people would define it the same way. Lust is often accurate but doesn't seem to include the sense of connection.

It just doesn’t make sense we’ve been talking for over a year and we’ve hung out twice. I’ve stayed with him at his place for two weekends. He took me out to dinner both times and took me around his area. All I asked was if we are just friends or not and that I wasn’t asking him for anything serious or to be my boyfriend. I just wanted to know so I don’t expect anything more and he still couldn’t give me a straight answer. All he said was he still wants to see where things go. In my mind, that’s basically keeping his options open I think?

He’s 48. He can’t even defined what we have going on. I asked him if we were just friends or what is it because I want to set my boundaries and he said he just wants to see where things go. I asked him like three times about three months in between, and he still gives me the same answers

I'm not sure what else you can do. You have asked him a simple question that he won't answer other than to say we'll see where it goes. I think it is safe to assume he is not interested in anything serious or he would have told you by now.

Do you think it’s a possibility that he doesn’t want anything serious with just me?

That is possible. It's impossible to know what he could be thinking. There is another possibility that he wants to keep you in his life as more than a friend, but doesn't want to commit to to a serious relationship for some reason. Perhaps he has other women in his life and is playing all of you.

I don't know he still texts me even if I don’t respond I’ll reply like 2days later

You may want to set your boundaries with him and see how he responds.

That’s what I was thinking. I asked him. I just wanna know where I stand. I wasn’t asking him to be my boyfriend and he just kept giving me the same answer. He doesn’t know what the future holds for us. And I just said I wanna know so I can set my boundaries and not expect anything more and he gave me the same answers and he said he felt bad every time I bring it up
