Guy stuttering and extremely nervous after finding out I was flirting with him?

Basically I was trying to slyly get to know this guy better -- sent him an email about getting some help. And one of his friends loudly mentioned that "some people can be naive and not notice someone emailing you for help is hitting on you"

Though his friend didn't mention either of our names... I wanted to go crawl into a hole, even with a poker face.. yikes

The guy I'm interested in. I guess he really didn't realize I was hitting on him. Maybe it only made sense once his friend said that crap.

We made eye contact while he was speaking to everyone. He started stuttering on his words so badly. I tried to look away because I wondered if he hated me or thought I was harassing him.

His other friend noticed and flicked his head back and forth between us. Then announced "we should all pay attention to (guy) some more". So I was forced to look back at him out of politeness.

At the end of the event, when we handed in some papers. He did tell me in a soft voice that my papers were all good. So he doesn't seem to hate me. But now I'm at a loss of what to do.
