What does it mean when a guy message you saying its okay to tell him if I dont wanna talk to him anymore?

I’ve been talking to a guy for a month now. Recently it felt like things are changing on his end with low energy and texts over the past 1.5 weeks after we had a problem. Usually I message him back everyday, but yesterday I didn’t message him at all because I was sad and tired of it. Surprisedly he even double message me yesterday. And this morning he sent me a sweet good morning and told me that it’s okay to tell him if I don’t wanna talk to him anymore.

It means he'd like to talk with you but that he respects your space and privacy. That's at least what it would mean if I said that.

Thanks for your kind words… slowly accepting that things won’t change because he’s not really trying… even though he claimed he wanted us to be 50/50 to make this work and wanted this after this question post when he msged me if I wanted to stop talking..

it’s just hard bc it’s weird, he won’t let me go and won’t step up either. I poured my heart out on how I missed how he used to be towards me and we’ve grown distant… I don’t wanna let go, but I need to bc it feels like he no longer wanna build a connection/future with me. And I told him I know he updated his dating profile which is clear is focus is elsewhere. I think it’s just hard cuz I never really felt the way I feel with him before… sadly he wasn’t empathetic … he only said he didn’t update his profile and he was sleeping as to why he missed my call. I’m sure we had a misunderstanding cuz I tried calling him and didn’t hear back. But he didn’t try to call me like he used to and he didn’t try to reassure me in a loving way.. I didn’t reply.. he sent me pretty pics of his this morning; and he left me on unread all day today despite being online after I replied saying it makes me miss our peace and his gentle reassurance and showing he cares by calling me..
