Have you ever had a crush on someone you know wasn't good for you?

Question

This last woman i gotna crush on turns out is a drug addict, thief and prostitute. Yet I ended up liking her. But when I realized what she is involved in i lost the crush.

sure similar experience... I know why.

love is a projection in some ways. I fell for my 5th grade teacher, I dont know why. when I saw that person I projected feeling onto them because of appearance. As I saw the reality of the person, it was no good. I know another guy that has done the same thing... it's all a fantasy... and he is paying the price and I suspect will suffer more in the future.

this can be really dangerous if you get further along and get snagged up in their life... you may see the greater person in them but they don't want to change or heal or grow. It will drag you down into their abyss, could be a lifetime what you didn't bargain for... all due to feelings established in childhood. So examine what drew you to that person. You may never know if you didn't get some better information.

I married "my" kindergarden/1st grade teacher:) It's going well because of her values and character... which is a big aspect of what I perceived when I fell for my early life teacher... confidence, values, humor, bubbly. Apples don't fall too far from the tree.

Pfff... in the days of my youth I had my fair number of infatuations. None of them turned into anything though. I think this is normal. Some examples from my own life:

- one crush was having an affair with a a married man

- another crush I had in college was over one very attractive girl who was also very manipulative ( and had a boyfriend).

- another one turned out to be off her fucking rocker.

But in my defense these were all when I was in my twenties when I was young and would easily fall in love with any cute girl around.

Now I am 48 and too cynical and jaded for love. I focus on me and my stuff and I don't given any woman the time of day.

Sometimes the heart reacts to chemistry the mind can’t justify.

You feel the pull even while knowing they won’t bring you peace.

It’s a reminder that attraction isn’t always aligned with what’s healthy and that choosing better often takes more strength than falling for someone.

Although I draw the line at addict and prostitute.
If she was any of those I wouldn’t even be able to get an erection much less a crush.

But every time I had the hots for someone it was someone unavailable for one reason or another

I’ve been with dozens of women who were readily available but I couldn’t muster up any real feelings for them

Maybe I’m messed up that way

I felt this way about getting back together with an ex before. She wanted to get back together. Part of me wanted to as well. I missed her. I loved her. But… We broke up for a reason. I needed to remind myself of that. You just need to face the facts and that will sober you up and help you see the situation clearly.

@smahala1991 I suppose I've avoided many women who may have been otherwise attractive yet just not compatible with me. For all I know, I'm much more too humble and too introverted (not that I mind, I mean that "their" expectations or "their" friends) may prefer an extrovert lol. so I'm glad I was never in an awkward spot as a boyfriend of some extrovert - or worse - some woman even more introverted than me.

yeah my early crushes were like that. not such extreme as cushing on a criminal or a drug addict but having a crush on a girl that objectively didn't fit what i needed in a partner just cause i didn't wanna be alone and there was no other girl i could have these feelings for in my circle.
