Me and my boyfriend live about an hour and a half drive away from each other (he has his licence but won’t buy a car) because of this we only really see each other once a week on a weekend. He was also meant to buy a car months ago but keeps spending money on tattoos. For the past year we’ve been together I drive us everywhere including if we go out on a date.
We have to mostly rely on texting or calling but he doesn’t like calling, he can often go for a week without calling me and I’ll give in and call him, we do text daily but it’s just to ask how his day is at work. I have spoken to him about this a few times and he says once he gets home from work he wants to just switch off and not talk to anyone, if I do call him after work he will just sit in silence and play video games.
He keeps saying he’s overstimulated from speaking at work all day (he works as a careers adviser). Which I can understand but I work in a hospital often in a&e and my job can physically, mentally and emotionally taxing but I still make an effort in the evenings to call.

That relationship sounds so one sided, with no silver lining. I really hope you decide to get out of it, you can do soooo much better. But to answer your question, before my fiancé and I moved in together, whoever woke up first would text the other good morning. Call on lunch break if we could, then he’d get off work at night and drive the 45 mins it took to get to my house. We were in an LDR too to an extent, and I don’t drive, so he would always come after work (he either got off at 10pm or 11pm) to see me and then stay with me on his days off.
I reside with my husband, and so we converse frequently. However, we also maintain our own identities and prioritize our personal space.
