I've noticed recently that my friend's friends stare at me. They don't even try to hide it, if they're around me, they'd stare at me. Both his male and female friends do it. Sometimes they would just look at each other when I'm around and stare at me. He's very awkward to talk to me in front of them. His friends are my acquaintances but we're not that close that I can ask them why they're looking at me. And I can't ask him without understanding the possible reasons. Can it be that they dislike me secretly or there's something negative going on? He seems to be a very respectful and kind person so I'm not really sure.

Your friend may not be as friendly as you think he is. There are a number of reasons why exactly his friends keep staring at you and perhaps not at others.
He could have told them something about you that makes them want to stare at you or he was not as honest with you for them to want to stare at you.
Whatever the reason is, you should really ask him what the reason behind their odd behavior is. At least he should take your defense and your back and tell them not to stare at you or explain why they do it. This is not a normal behavior.
He's a really kind person actually. It's that I don't understand this friends dynamic. They also kinda joke (?) around me. For example, one day he was talking to me and his best friend came up. Seeing him he got a bit awkward and asked if he was going somewhere and wanted him to accompany. The best friend smiled and said: "nope not right now, as much as I know you'll need to go there later. You can stay there right now." Another time he was talking to me and a female friend of his came up. She looked at me, made a questioning gesture with her eyes towards him and he nodded slightly. They thought I didn't notice. Then she left.
If he is a kind person, then you should address that awkward situation and ask for his opinion why they stare at you all the time and whether there is a rumor circulating about you.
If he knows something, he will surely tell you but the longer you wait, the more odd it will get every time you meet his friends
You’re either real nice looking or you dress real Dorky
They're all in their mid-20s, are they really judging on me on appearance or clothes? Then why aren't others doing it? Only this particular friend's friend group does it.
Why can't you ask them why they are staring?
Because we're not friends and they're usually in a group while I'm alone. And they're older than me and professionally my seniors so I'm not supposed to randomly just question them. In academia such things can easily backfire. Therefore I was looking for some possible explanations here.
Excuses.
Lol. I wish they were. But they're 4 and I'm alone. I'm their academic junior and where I live speaking roughly to your seniors or questioning them aren't seen positively. Probably you've never been part of a conservative academia circle. The hierarchy is real. And I'm introverted on top of that. If you don't know the answer, I appreciate you trying to be rude to me. Thanks.
What was rude?
Just so you know, no one here knows the answer. It is all guesses. You created all of this drama, but you won't fix it.
'Conservative academia' sounds like a great time. I have a hard time believing that asking a simple question would cause a major academic incident. Whatever.
Where's drama sir? Lol. You're just too insensitive towards people who don't follow the same script in life as you. If you
don't have an answer, you could choose to not comment. What's the point of getting irritated by someone else's issue when they didn't specifically asked you. You are considerably older than me, a full 30 years. Our experiences and worldviews differ. I have mentioned in the post that I can't ask them. So of course I'm looking for answers that can provide suggestions beyond that. If not, sorry to say, I'm not interested in hearing the obvious things.
Mmmhmmm.
