Did my guy friend mean it when he texted “love you” after a favor?

So guy friend of mine whom I've known for 3 years now (we have been pretty close, texting, talking, he was there for me when ex&I broke up, he wiped my tears from my cheek, etc) has asked me for a favor every now and then and he sent a text saying "love you" after I did him the favor, however this is the first time he's ever said that, but I didn't get the context behind it, thought he was not being serious so I just did a laugh emoji and told him your welcome. He calls me "sunshine" "beautiful" "my dear". I did not bring up the "love you" text as I don't want to overthink it or anything, but I'm not sure if he actually meant it or if it was meant in a friendly manner like when you do something for a friend and they say "love you"(he also asked if we could be friends with benefits prior to this, but we have not slept together yet or anything) Thoughts? Opinions? I'm a little inexperienced with this type stuff.

Why wouldn’t you want to confirm whether or not that I love you carried romantic connotation? It’s too late to worry about overthinking since you are now here, inviting people to make you overthink even more.

Your 'guy friend' is dying to have sex with you. Why would you be friends with benefits with him? I don't recommend ever doing that, you won't like it.

If he is serious about you he shouldn’t be finding excuses not to see you, so be careful he’s not playing you.

I agree. I did explain to him in a polite way that I don't want to be played, and he said "you over-think a lot I noticed. Let's just keep things friendly, I am not upset" then again... my ex fiancé was like this too when we were first met so I hope this isn't a bad thing.

So I sent him a text explaining how in my experience "soon" means "not really ever" and hoe I don't want to be played, that I don't think he's the type to do that and also said I'm not upset, and sorry if I upset or annoyed him and he texted back "I am not upset at all. You overthink a lot I noticed lol. Let's just keep things friendly" he does read and respond to my texts pretty quickly/frequently. I am trying not to read too much into anything though of course either.

Like the old saying, actions speak louder than words. If he's not responding to texts in a reasonable amount of time and making excuses about why he can't see you, I think he is making it clear he's not that into you. You are not overthinking. Him saying that is his way of trying to justify his inaction.

I agree 100%. He actually reads and responds back to my texts instantly, but he works RR and isn't allowed his phone while on the job and has a very unpredictable schedule, not making that an excuse but that is a reality and I agree with what you are saying

Like the other old saying, time will tell. Hopefully things will work out for the two of you if that is what you want. At least you know he has a valid excuse for why he cannot always reply quickly.
