Why do most girls’ rooms usually smell better than boys’ rooms?

I have a wall plug diffuser and spray some air freshener in the morning. Me and my Husband obviously share the same bedroom but I make sure the room is always fresh and clean.

As someone who has cleaned both men’s and women’s bathrooms and locker rooms, i know that is categorically false.

Women have a stronger sense of smell than men, generally. This is a fact of evolutionary biology. Early women foraged for ripening fruits, vegetables and herbs which are often indicated by waxing and waning aromas. That strength was nurtured well into the industrial age as women remained the primary home keepers and child rearers. Even mildly spoiled food could kill a child. The ability to detect it before serving it literally advanced bloodlines. Early humans without these abilities likely starved to death or died from food poisoning.
The end result is women even today are more likely to enhance their immediate environment with aromatic plants, air fresheners and perfumes. That’s to say nothing of the personal deodorants and perfumes they apply in a wide variety of personal cleansers, lotions and cosmetics. This is more a result of social hierarchies. A millennium ago only the wealthiest individuals could afford such things. The plebeians frequently smelled bad. They were dubbed “the great unwashed” by the elites. So much of that behavior was inherited by generations of women trying to increase their social status. I would argue that is also evolutionary biology, but there is an argument for it being entirely learned and taught behavior.
