A few months ago, I went on a date with a coworker. Before the movie started, we were sitting and talking for a little while. During that time, he started rubbing on me and tried putting his hand inside my shirt. He also asked me several times to go back to his place with him. Then, during the movie, he ended up falling asleep.
A few days after the date i texted him and told him not to contact me anymore because I felt like all he wanted from the situation was sex. He denied that was his intention, even though there were several things that made me feel otherwise.
Since we worked together, I also told him not to speak to me when he saw me at work.
I’ve completely moved on from the situation, but his behavior at work is what I find strange.
When we’re in close proximity, he acts extremely awkward. If I happen to glance over in his direction, accidentally heal, hurry up and look down at the ground. But when we’re farther apart, his behavior is completely different.
If he’s 20–30 feet away from me, I’ll sometimes catch him staring at me while he’s supposed to be working. One day, I was walking down the hallway and he saw me. He literally stopped what he was doing and just stared at me until I walked past him.
That’s the part I don’t understand.
If you’re trying to avoid me, why are you watching me when you think you can do it from a distance? If you’re uncomfortable around me, why continue staring at me months after the situation happened? I’m not approaching him, I’m not trying to talk to him, and I’m not trying to get his attention. As far as I’m concerned, the situation is over.
So why would a guy avoid eye contact and act like a woman doesn’t exist when she’s right in front of him, but then stare at her when she’s across the room?
Im not interested in pursuing anything with him. I’m specifically asking what might be going through his mind that would cause this kind of behavior, especially months after the situation.

It sounds like he still has some interest in you, but you terrify him. His actions sound like potential sexual assault, so your response was understandable. Now that you told him off, he is worried about your reaction to anything he does. Maybe he percived some of your actions as potential interest. When he is far away, he feels a lot safer and confident. When you are close, it sounds like you give him anxiety attacks. Maybe you should just talk to him and clear the air or give closure. This situation doesn't sound healthy for anyone.
