Well I guess my questions is would you rather have a partner who earned a decent wage and had a 9-5 job. Or would you want to have a partner that could earn silly amounts of money but that you could spend less time with?

Pilots are not "rarely home" it's true that they are out of the house more often than the typical worker, but they have situations where they will have several days in a row off. They can also "drop" trips and give them to pilots who are sitting on reserve, also when they go on vacation they are usually off for 2-3 weeks in a row and it's not just a one vacation a year deal.

So I'll go with the pilot, though at my age she'd probably be flying for a regional carrier so she won't be getting paid diddly squat but eh, there are more important things in the world than money.

Both have their virtues. Dating a pilot would make me feel somewhat emasculated, especially if I don't get this flight program I'm after. And I just find something attractive about a girl that's good with numbers and money, as odd as that sounds.

my uncle is a pilot and he is always away and hardly ever home. yeah, he makes tons of money and he brings his son (who is currently 22) on some of the trips (Hawaii, Paris, etc) but it seems like that's the only quality time they ever get and they don't have the best relationship.

The pilot would probably be more interesting. Accountant's are usually boring and have a very strange sense of humor.

I like the idea of an accountant because I love to handle my income and to know how much money I could save up, so an accountant would work for me because she would know how to spend in the right places. :D

This is a very big deal. Irresponsible habits with money can split marriages. If both partners understand how to make the best with what they have and not overspend themselves into serious debt, that's one less obstacle down the road.

exactly how I feel. I think say grade 11 and 12 math should have a section added all about house hold funds. They could have fake jobs for the students and the teacher comes up with random things that will happen to them like getting a raise and or getting fired car breaks down and so on. there would be more smaller rules too but that would be a start.

My dad is a pilot and he doesn't make much... He's also an aircraft mechanic. I'd rather marry the accountant, makes decent money and isn't being put in danger all the time (yes I know, airplanes hardly ever crash whatever) D:

My father was a cpa and I flew planes in military school. Accountants are crazy (in a bad way lol) and pilots are crazy (in a good way) so I pick pilot.

You have to be somewhat crazy and resiliant to be able to work for 20 or 22 hours a day for 3 months. Working with numbers all day (and really stupid people with REALLY stupid questions) can make you nutzo.

It sounds like you are speaking from experience. Are you an accountant 7gnat. I never bought it would be so bad to be an accountant. But somehow that would explain the high suicide rate

I did taxes for 7 years or so. I worked for my father who had the largest CPA business in New Jersey for several years. It is a job that you are married to.

Well I guess just as much as the career of the pilot is a job that you are married to. There seem to be a lot of parallels between the two.

some but honestly not many. I knew some great pilots. Some actually worked for NASA. Check out Harry Shepard. Amazing man. Sadly he died from cancer years back but first time he let me fly his plane I was 9 and wow what a blast. He let me go upside down and hahaha my dad (the accountant) threw up really bad after we landed.

Hmm. Not sure I would want to marry a pilot though. I mean you would always be the second wife. Isn't a pilot married to his career? I also got the impression that most pilots are single and like to play the field. But maybe that is a stereotype.

Having a pilot or a guy like Harry Shepard as a friend though would be pretty cool.

They have MUCH much more freedom then accountants and yes they are kinda into the single life but wow the possibilities of going everywhere and anywhere at any given time would be great

I only know that air traffic controllers and dentists have the highest suicide rate of all jobs.

I thought vet's (doctors for animals) had a high suicide rate because they have to put down so many family pets and stuff.

Maybe it varies between countries. In the UK air traffic controllers commit the most suicides, because of the stress and the pressure they are under. But it is also the tenth best paid job. No idea why dentists commit suicide though? I could see why vets would.

I don't know, but I'm doing this because I have WAY too many friends who are physics, psychology, veterinarian, sociology, and so on, majors who have absolutely no success finding any jobs related to their majors. Once I'm out of college, I definitely do not want to be waiting tables at Red Lobster.
