Why would a guy I don't know say hi to me in the halls?

Today some guy I've maybe seen around and never talked to (he's not in my grade or I'd know) say hi to me in the school hallways?

This is exactly what happened:

I was walking down an empty hallway (except for him) and he says "Hi"

I smile because that's what I do when I'm confused or something is awkward and I keep walking down the hall.

His face goes red and he smiles back then looks at the ground and walks past.

I don't know him and I think I might have seen him somewhere but I'm not sure. Why randomly say Hi?

I don't have a clue who he is?

Did he confuse me for someone else?

... so, WTF was that? :/

I've never in my life been subjected to random hellos from people I don't know. So geez sue *me*. -.-

I am anti-social. I think it's incredible weird to say hello to people you don't know. It flat out stunned me that people would do that. I wasn't looking for people to tell me he liked me (or whatever else), I'm not that conceited (in fact the opposite).

I was simply stating what happened and why someone would do this. The gender was irrelevant.

? Why is saying hi to a fellow classmate (even if you don't know each other) weird if you are the only two in the hall? I do that all the time. I don't think this is the first time anyone has done that to you or that you've never done the same thing, I think you are interested in this random guy and looking for others to tell you that he is interested, which is impossible to know from a simple hi.

If this is new to you, you should really work on being more social, life is a lot harder if you box yourself in. Be friendly with others and they'll return the favor...most of the time haha. Just some friendly advice ;)

wow, a guy can't say hi and smile at his crush anymore without being considered a freak, the hell lady cut him some slack, I say hi to people I've never known just to be nice or because its polite, why don't you talk to him because it seems like he likes you but is too nervous to go further than hi. Hell I did the same thing in middle school, failed at it, I still suck at making converations today.

Wow maybe you should try to get him arrested. But if you are not so upset about him instead of asking gag why he is asking (cuz most of us have little to 0 telepathic powers-and he probably likes you if he is turning red after asking) why not just ask him or ask him out if he is your type. If he is not your type just be cordial and nod your head or say hi back as he walks by you.

Maybe he wants to get to know you. Not the most typical way to do this, but maybe he thought that would work. Do you not want to get to know him? If you would like to know him why not say hi back and see what happens?

Hatred? For being such a dumb question I think that the answers I just looked at were pretty nice. If he says hi then turns red WHAT DO YOU THINK? You honestly can't figure that out? Even if you are ant-social the only excuse for being so ignorant would be if you were raised in a cave in the Himalayas.
